This unique wilderness, located in the west of Rajasthan between Udaipur and Jodhpur, is a haven for wildlife, and home to nomadic Rabari herdsman. Jawai is situated where wild grasslands and pastoral fields meet the waters of the Jawai Bandh – the largest water reservoir in western Rajasthan – which attracts an abundance of flamingos, cranes and other wildlife. The highlight of this area is the thriving population of leopard, which are often seen amongst the pristine landscape. The heritage and abundance of wildlife in this region sets Jawai aside from the rest of Rajasthan, from its nomadic Rabari herdsman to the nearby cultural highlights which include Kumbalgarh Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the sculpted temples at Ranakpur, and the nearby cities of Jodhpur and Udaipur.
